PhD position: Disease-related protein interaction networks

The Ahmadian group at the Institute of Biochemistry & Molecular biology IIof the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf in Germanyis expert in the field of RAS/RHO biochemistry with a long-term focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of disease-related signaling pathways. Our interests can be subdivided into three main themes: (i) Elucidation of the structure-function relationship of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions; (ii) characterization and in vitroreconstitution of signaling networks in solution and on synthetic liposomes; (iii) identification and validation of new interacting surfaces as potential drug target sites. In this context, we assign concrete topics for PhD research.

Activities and responsibilities

  • Production andpurificationof proteins
  • Cell-based isolation of native protein complexes
  • Generation of synthetic membrane mimetics, e.g. liposomes and nanodiscs
  • Kinetics of protein-protein/protein-lipid interactions & enzymes
  • In vitro-reconstitution of liposome-associated protein interaction networks

Qualification profile

  • Excellent graduate in the field of biochemistry or biophysics (Master or equivalent)
  • Highly motivated and committed
  • Strong background in liposome-based protein-protein interactions
  • Self-initiative,independent, well-structured working skills
  • A supportive and encouraging team player
  • Very good verbal and written English communication skills
