PhD position in Microbiology/Biochemistry

The Department of Microbial Interactions in Plant Ecosystems in the Interfaculty Institute for Microbiology and Infection Medicine (IMIT) and Center for Molecular Biology of Plants (ZMBP) at the

University of Tübingen is offering a

PhD position in Microbiology/Biochemistry

With the topic: “Amyloid-like proteins in microbe-microbe-interactions – toxicity and resistance”.

This new research project is part of the Research Training Group (GRK1708) “Molecular principles of bacterial survival strategies“. In this project we focus on amyloid-like proteins and their function in microbe-microbe and host-microbe interactions. The work program will involve state-of-the-art methods in molecular biology and microbiology with a special focus on biochemistry.

The IMIT, ZMBP and the GRK1708 are providing a first class research environment consisting of highly interactive groups with modern technical equipment and expertise. Further information can be found on the homepage of the GRK1708
The PhD position will be in the group of Eric Kemen and will be associated with the Graduate School of Microbiology. The earliest possible start is the 1st of January 2018 and funded for at least three years.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent master degree in biological sciences, with a strong background in cellular and general microbiology, molecular tools and biochemistry. Experience in plant sciences is desired but not inevitable. High motivation, dedication to research, experimental creativity, cooperative and self-organized working is expected.

Severely disabled applicants with equal qualification and aptitude will be given preferential consideration. The University of Tübingen seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and particularly encourages female applicants to apply for this position.
