PhD position, Medical Faculty, Kiel (Germany)

The University of Kiel is offering a PhD position in the Biochemical Department
in the group of Dr. Friederike Zunke.

We are looking for highly motivated PhD candidates, who are interested in molecular pathways of neurodegenerative disorders (e.g. Parkinson’s Disease) and the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Candidates should have a strong interest in cell biology, protein functions and translational research questions. Experiences with protein expression, cell culture, and/or mouse models is advantageous but not mandatory.

The project is embedded within the Collaborative Research Centre CRC877 (SFB877), which has particular interest in the function of proteolytic enzymes and their involvement in human pathophysiology.
Our aim is to transfer biochemical characteristics of proteases to their biological function in health and disease. To succeed, we combine different approaches: biochemistry, cell culture (induced-pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)) and animal models (see Zunke et al., Neuron, 2018; Zunke et al., PNAS, 2016; Rothaug, Zunke et al., PNAS, 2014; Neculai et al., Nature, 2013).

The salary is in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD Bund): salary group E13 (65%), for three years.
