PhD position - The regulation of the tumour-suppressor LKB1

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD-student, experiences with mammalian cell culture or Drosophila genetics would be helpful but not mandatory.

In the project the PhD student is going to work on, we are focussing on the role of the tumour-suppressor LKB1 in the establishment and maintenance of cell polarity and proliferation control in Drosophila and mammalian cells.                  

We have recently found that binding of LKB1 to phospholipids of the membrane is essential for its kinase activity and its tumour suppressor capacity in vitro and in vivo (Dogliotti et al. 2017, Nat. Commun.). We further identified several new posttranslational modifications as well as new potential substrates of LKB1 which should now be analysed in context of phospholipids of the plasma membrane. The project will be embedded within the SFB1348 (Dynamic Cellular Interfaces).  
As model system we are using Drosophila as well as 2D- and 3D-mammalian cell culture models. The project involves a variety of techniques in molecular biology (e.g. qPCR, cloning, mutagenesis), biochemistry (co-immunoprecipitation, Western Blotting, kinase assays, protein pulldowns, etc.) and cell biology (immunostainings, (super resolution) confocal laser microscopy, FRET-analysis, live-imaging).

The position is available from 01.04.2018 for three years. Candidates should have obtained their Master/Diplom in Biology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry. The salary is according to TVL13 (65%).
