Our research group is located at the Institute for Cardiovascular Physiology and is focusing on the development of new optogenetic approaches, their application to improve our understanding in (patho-)physiology of the heart and muscle tissue as well as to develop translational strategies to improve current treatment strategies in clinics. The PhD student can be associated to the IRTG 1816 and will enter the PhD Programm Molecular Medicine within GAUSS.

The Cellular Biophysics and Translational Cardiology Section, together with the Core Facility Proteomics of the University Medical Center Göttingen offers a position for a PhD student (m/f/d).

Activities and responsibilities

In her/his project, the PhD candidate will work on the project ”Gq protein activation by atrial stretch in heart failure” within the CRC1002 consortium. This project aims to decipher the impact of atrial dilation and wall stress on the generation of atrial cardiomyopathies and atrial fibrillation.

The PhD student will be trained in optogenetic stimulation, electrophysiology (Ca2+-Imaging, Voltage Imaging, Patch clamp) and whole heart physiology (Langendorff preparation, ECG recording, Arrhythmia testing) as well as cell culture, molecular biology and standard lab techniques.

She/He will profit from close interactions within CRC consortium as well as the Partner site Göttingen of the Deutsches Zentrum für Herz-/Kreislauferkrankungen (DZHK).
