Technical Assistant or Biology Lab Assistant (f/m/d)
 
to work in the Research Group of RNA Synthetic Biology (RSYN) under the direction of Prof. Dr. Chase Beisel.
 
The Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) was established in May 2017 as a joint venture between the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig and the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg (JMU). The HIRI is the first research institution worldwide to exclusively address the role of ribonucleic acids (RNA) in infection processes. Based on novel findings, innovative therapeutic approaches are developed in an integrated research approach and made clinically usable through the development of pharmaceutical forms of application. Activities and responsibilities

The RSYN research group focuses on characterizing and harnessing CRISPR-Cas systems toward better understanding, diagnosing, and treating human infections. The TA or biology lab assistant will support the scientific research of the group by helping elucidate the properties of CRISPR-Cas systems, RNA-guided immune systems in bacteria and archaea, and harnessing these systems for use in applications such as genome editing, targeted antimicrobials, and gene drives. They will also complete routine tasks required to maintain regular operation of the research laboratory.

Qualification profile

Competitive applicants should have completed vocational training as a TA or biology lab technician and should have extensive experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or microbiology. Tasks should be carried out largely independently after training. Experience with instrumental analytics as well as flow cytometry analysis, gene cloning, and next-generation sequencing are highly desirable. Additionally, applicants should be highly organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, communicate effectively, possess solid technical understanding, and show interest in solving technical problems independently. Practical experience with current software systems for molecular biology equipment and data processing are desirable. As a given, the TA or biology lab technician will be expected to readily familiarize themselves with new systems and methods, exhibit a high degree of care and attention, and show conscientiousness in everyday laboratory work. The basic ability to communicate in English as well as the safe handling of standard computer software should be provided.

We offer compensation according to TVöD and varied activities on an international team. Working languages are English and German. The hiring is through the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research GmbH in Braunschweig. The place of employment is Würzburg.

Salary: E 9b TVÖD / Bund

Die Vergütung für vergleichbare Positionen liegt im Mittel bei circa 47.007,00 € brutto im Jahr. Je nach Erfahrung und Qualifikation, sowie weiteren Faktoren kann dieser Schätzwert in unterschiedlichem Maße von der tatsächlich zu erwartenden Vergütung abweichen.
