PhD position in in cellular neurobiology

PhD student position in Düsseldorf, Germany
A PhD position (TV-L E13/2 funded for three years by BMBF within the European CircProt consortium) is available in the group of Prof. Dr. K. Gottmann. The international CircProt consortium aims to investigate the protective potential of BDNF related plasticity mechanisms for therapeutic treatment of Alzheimer´s and Huntington´s disease.
The position will be based at the Institute of Neuro- and Sensory Physiology of the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, Germany. The project will focus on the essential role of synaptic adhesion molecules e.g. N-cadherin in stabilizing central glutamatergic synapses. We further want to elucidate how BDNF regulates the N-cadherin adhesion system leading to enhanced synapse stability. State-of-the-art electrophysiological (patch clamp), fluorescence imaging (super-resolution), and molecular (overexpression, conditional knockout) methods will be employed.

We are looking for candidates with enthusiasm for research in cellular neurobiology and an ambitious style of working. A solid background in molecular and cellular neuroscience is expected. The ideal candidates should have hands-on experience in electrophysiology and/or high-end fluorescence imaging including proficiency in data analysis. A good command of English is required in our international working environment.
