PhD position in Plant-Microbe Interaction Biology / Plant Immune Signaling

The Department of Plant Cell Biology at the Schwann-Schleiden Research Center for Molecular Cell Biology, University of Göttingen offers a
PhD position in
Plant-Microbe Interaction Biology / Plant Immune Signaling
This position should be filled as soon as possible and is offered for 3 years.
Salary: Pay grade 13 TV-L (65%).
Your Duties
• Research on a project within the framework of the International Research Training Group (IRTG) PRoTECT (http://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/529150.html)
Research in our lab is focused on the molecular analysis of plant-microbe interactions, plant defense activation, executive defense mechanisms and fungal virulence factors. This specific project aims at providing novel insights into pathogen-induced cell wall remodeling in compatible and incompatible plant-fungus interactions, into potential DAMP production capacities of enzymes that are used by two distinct lineages of phytopathogenic fungi to colonize their respective host plants and into the cognate molecular machineries employed by the latter to guarantee efficient DAMP detection.
The project is integrated in an International Graduate School that comprises research groups from Goettingen and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and will be executed in close collaboration with our Canadian colleague, Dr. Harry Brumer. Furthermore, the program offers many opportunities for the improvement of scientific and personal skills.
Your Profile
• highly qualified degree (Master/Diplom) in the area of Molecular Biology and/or Biochemistry
• very good English skills (written and spoken)
• willingness to spend part of the PhD thesis at UBC in Vancouver
The University of Goettingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply as they are underrepresented in this field. The University firmly intends to raise the number of disabled persons in its employment.
