The Biotechnology Centre (BIOTEC) and the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden - Cluster of Excellence (CRTD) are central research institutions of TU Dresden. Biologists, Chemists, Physisists and Bioinformaticians work together to solve questions in cutting-edge research. The Chair of Molecular Developmental Genetics (Herr Prof. Dr. Michael Brand) studies the mechanisms of tissue regeneration (brain and bone) in the model organisms zebrafish and mouse. In this context we are looking for a highly motivated and talented
PhD Student
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
to work in the topic “Fgf morphogen gradients in the nervous system”. The position starts at the earliest possible date and is initially limited until 31.03.2019 with the possibility of extension. The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position entails 65% of the fulltime weekly hours. The project is funded by an ERC advanced grant of the European Union (topic: control of brain regeneration). The position will give you an excellent chance for further academic qualification.
Tasks: independent design and performance of experiments in cell-, molecular-, neuro- and developmental biology, including single molecule measurements with fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) and their evaluation/analysis.
Requirements: We aim at attracting the best talents in the respective research fields and expect the following: an outstanding university degree (masters or equivalent) in Biology, Biotechnology or related field of science; profound experience in developmental biology, molecular and cell biology and with the model organism zebrafish and the following methods: confocal laser scan microscopy, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, histology, identification of cell types, generation and use of genetically modified organisms and transgenic fish, regeneration models, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, qRT-PCR, tissue specific depletion of cells, flow cytometry and next generation sequencing. We work in an international team, thus excellent communication and social skills are essential, including fluency in English – written and oral.
