PhD Student
payment follows TVöD (Salary Class 75% E13)
for the topic “Mathematical modelling and optimization of artificial metabolic networks
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, limited to three years with the possibility of extension.
It is embedded into the joint research project MaxSynBio, whose overall objective is the rational synthesis of functional biological systems from molecular modules. Further information is available on:

Activities and responsibilities

  • formulation, implementation, and simulation of mathematical models of biological systems
  • model identification and validation by experimental data
  • guidance of experiments by optimal experimental design methods

Qualification profile

Suitable candidates:
  • hold master’s degree in engineering or natural sciences, preferentially in (bio-)process/ biosystems engineering, technical cybernetics, physics, or related disciplines with grades above average
  • have strong interest in system-theoretical approaches
  • have strong communication skills and motivation for a close cooperation with experimentalists
  • experience in enzyme kinetics, systems biology, and biochemistry will be considerable advantage.
