Post Doc Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics - Macrophage Biology (m/f/d)

Post Doc Computational Biology

JOB ID: 1912045
JOB LEVEL: Experienced
FUNCTIONAL AREA: Research & Development

Unraveling Macrophage Biology and its pathogenic aberrations through Single Cell Genomics is a strategic key area of our research. Through our international academic collaborators and a well-equipped experimental lab, we thereby can avail of new technologies that allow studying how macrophages behave once they get exposed to tissue-specific, pathophysiological and pathogen induced-stimuli. Specifically, by using the emerging technology of single cell sequencing, we will investigate how the exposure of macrophages to inflamed, fibrotic and oncogenic tissues will alter their genetic makeup and immunogenic programming. By this, we aim us to unravel the decisive mechanisms that govern macrophage aberrations in respiratory diseases and cancer to find new therapeutic targets.

Are you an ambitious, open-minded computational scientist, who is willing to work independently in this novel and exciting scientific area? Do you have experience in large-scale computational data analysis with solid knowledge of immune cell biology? Do you enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team environment, and are willing to travel occasionally to the Netherlands, United States or to present at national and international conferences?

Yes? Great, than we should meet each other!
If you want to play an active role in bringing this scientific are forward, then join our computational biology team for Cancer Immunology, Immune Modulation and Respiratory, in Biberach an der Riss, Germany.

The position is initially limited for 2 years.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • As Post Doc, you are part of an international collaboration assessing the role of macrophages and their tissue imprinting in respiratory diseases and cancer.
  • To achieve that, you are analyzing large-scale internal and external single cell gene expression sets by standard expression sequencing pipelines.
  • You maintain close relationships with BI experimental researchers and external collaborators for data interpretation and data presentation.
  • As a result you generate data-driven biological hypotheses that can be tested in experimentally.

  • Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biophysics or Biochemistry/Biology with strong quantitative focus
  • Knowledge of Immunobiology, especially macrophage biology
  • Experience in handling, analyzing, and annotating next-generation sequencing data sets
  • Ability to process complex and large data sets, desirable in high-performance cluster environments
  • Excellent programming/software development skills with sound experience in R/Bioconductor and/or Python
  • Scientific publication record in applied bioinformatics
  • Familiarity with single cell NGS analyses and analyses using other –omics techniques (ATAC-Seq., proteomics, etc.) is a plus

Our benefits

  • Good compatibility of work and private life
  • Flex-time and working remotely
  • Healthy and well-balanced food in the canteens and for take away
