Professor of Applied Computer Science/
Semantic Information Retrieval in Life
Sciences (salary rank: W2)

at the earliest opportunity. The successful candidate will be employed for a period of five years in non-tenured employment based on the leave of absence system known as the‚ Jülich model‘. Candidates should supply evidence of in­ternational recognition in one or more of the following areas of specialisation:
  • Application of semantic and linguistic technologies in the field of scientific information retrieval
  • Analysis and evaluation of research data and metadata (bibliographic data, linked open data)
  • Discovery and processing of links
  • Visual and interactive systems for semantic information retrieval.
The successful candidate will represent this specialist field in the ambits of re­search and teaching and will be expected to establish a working group at ZB MED. ZB MED – Leibniz Information Centre for Life Sciences is Germany‘s primary ser­vice centre providing specialist information and expert research support in the field of life sciences. It specialises in the fields of medicine, health, and nutritio­nal, environmental and agricultural science.
The successful candidate will be expected to set research goals and content which fit the context of ZB MED‘s online services and which represent a useful addition to the core areas of research at the Institute of Computer Science. In accordance with the‚ Jülich model‘ of employment, immediate leave of absence will be provided by the university to allow the successful candidate to work at ZB MED, with the teaching assignment at the university comprising 2 SWS (con­tact hours) to be given as part of the B.S./M.S. courses in computer science. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain external funding and lead major projects.
