Molekulare Bioenergetik

The Molecular Bioenergetics Group, Cluster of Excellence Frankfurt “Macromolecular Complexes” at the Medical School of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (Head Prof. Ulrich Brandt) invites applications for a Ph. D. student position starting immediately.

The project aims at investigating the macromolecular complexes of the inner mitochondrial membrane.
The constituting proteins of these OXPHOS complexes are under the dual control of nuclear and mitochondrial (mt)DNA. In contrast to S. cerevisiae, no reliable method has been established to manipulate mitochondrial DNA from mammals and to reintroduce it into the cell. Building on our strong background in mitochondrial biology, innovative techniques in mitochondrial genetics will be applied to study the contribution of mtDNA encoded proteins to respiratory competency.

The successful candidate must have a degree (master/diploma) in science (e.g. biology, molecular biology, biochemistry) and should have a strong research interest in mitochondrial biology. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with skills in molecular biology, cell biology and protein biochemistry, fluency in written and spoken English, who has an open mind for new approaches and plenty of team spirit.
