Max-Planck-Institut für terrestrische Mikrobiologie
The Institute was founded the 1st of January 1991 to promote research in the area of microbiology in terrestrial habitats. The biochemistry, biogeochemistry, ecophysiology, symbiotic interactions and gene regulatory mechanisms of soil microorganisms are studied. The institute is presently structured in three departments (biochemistry, biogeochemistry, and organismic interactions). Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute until end of 2005 is Professor R. Thauer.
