Technologiepark Heidelberg GmbH

Campus Büro

Heidelberg Technology Park was conceived since 1984 as a science park and is part of the Campus of Germany´s oldest university, the Ruprecht-Karls-University. Heidelberg Technology Park is the heart of the Biotech Cluster Rhine-Neckar, BioRN, a location world-renowned for its competencies in molecular biology and cancer research.
The cluster is a two times winner in the most important national competitions of the German Ministry for Education and Research. In 1996 Biotech Cluster Rhine-Neckar won 26 m€ for co-operation projects of SMEs, Big Pharma and research institutions. The governmental grants were mirrored by the local industry, and supported by the closing of a local 125 m€ fund, called Heidelberg Innovation Funds, boosting the speed of local research and development.
In 2008 Biotech Cluster Rhine-Neckar was successful again and won the national Cutting-edge Cluster Contest receiving another 40 m€, which were doubled by the local biotech industry and Big Pharma, i.e. Roche Diagnostics, Merck Serono, and Abbott.
A very important source for venture capital is the local Dievini Hopp Biotech Holding. Dietmar Hopp and Klaus Tschira, two out of five founders of SAP software, are strong private investors in bioinformatics and personalized medicine.
Heidelberg´s research institutions, i.e. European Molecular Biology Laboratory headquarters (EMBL), the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg Ion-Beam Therapy Center (HIT), the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT), pus the University Clinics and Institutes are the source of new medicines, therapies and diagnostics. They are also European top level education centers for the offspring as well as partners for clinical studies.
Heidelberg Technology Park owns five locations in Heidelberg and rents 50,000 m² to 80 companies, mostly focused on biotechnology, research & development. New expansion space with another 30,000 m² is currently under construction and will satisfy the need of the growing biotechnology cluster Rhine-Neckar in 2011.
With its mix from biotechnology and medicine as well as informatics and environmental technology Heidelberg Technology Park has grown up into one of the most important centers for start-ups and established enterprises. Heidelberg Technology Park offers a Start-up Center, special areas for foundation projects from scientific institutions, an International PartnerPort supporting easier market access of foreign companies, a ConferenceCenter and a teaching lab for children, ExploHeidelberg. Furthermore Heidelberg Technology Park hosts a Kindergarten and a cafeteria in order to round off services.
