The University of Ulm was founded as a university of medicine and natural sciences in 1967. It is the newest university in Baden-Württemberg and constitutes an important link to the research oriented Science City of Ulm. There are currently around 7200 students at the University, distributed over four faculties.
The newly founded Institute of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology has its main focus in the development of new methods to characterize proteins in living cells. These as well as other techniques are applied to understand the molecular mechanisms that underly the division and separation of yeast cells.
