The ZIBI Graduate School is a joint doctoral program of university and non-university research institutes in Berlin. We are looking for highly motivated students of all nationalities who are strongly committed to research and share our vision to improve world health. PhD students at the ZIBI Graduate School address research problems in infection biology and immunology. The mission is to develop PhD students into creative, responsible and self-confident young researchers. The school encourages students to conduct independent research using interdisciplinary approaches at the molecular, cellular, and organismal level.

At the ZIBI Graduate School, PhD students perform their research in the disciplines of virology, bacteriology, parasitology, and immunology. The active and lively student community assures everybody has a productive and memorable time in Berlin.

Central Elements of Student Education
  • Individual course program with lecture courses, seminar series, practical courses, summer schools, and complementary education
  • Regular project presentations in peer discussion boards
  • Intensive supervision by scientific coordinators and a thesis advisory committee
  • International cooperation including lab visits, international meetings and conferences
  • Chances to invite internationally renowned scientists to Berlin
Candidates must hold a Master of Science or Diploma degree in any related subject by the time they join the ZIBI Graduate School. Candidates with a Bachelor of Science degree may also be admitted after completion of a preparatory year. English is the official language of instruction.
