Join us on our mission to make education accessible for all.
Join our Quality Operations team as a full-time member (40 hrs/week) in the role of Lead AI Quality Intelligence Engineer (m/f/d). This role is available at our IU office locations or remotely, provided you reside in Germany or the UK.
This role involves building next-generation, AI-powered quality intelligence systems that go beyond traditional test automation. Production-grade detection and diagnostic workflows will be developed to continuously monitor IU’s platforms, surface anomalies early, and accelerate incident response. This greenfield initiative has strong leadership backing and includes leading a small, hands-on team while collaborating closely with Quality, Engineering, and Incident Management leadership.
Lead Quality Intelligence Engineer (m/f/d)
Your tasks
- Lead and mentor two Quality Intelligence Engineers (senior and mid-level), guiding delivery from prototype to production
- Build AI-assisted quality intelligence systems using modern LLM frameworks (LangChain, LangSmith) and strong engineering fundamentals. Develop agentic workflows that continuously run product assurance checks across websites, services, and applications
- Detect meaningful anomalies early while reducing noise through operational thresholds and alert guardrails and build defect risk forecasting models and recurring failure pattern analyses using BigQuery and advanced SQL
- Integrate quality intelligence with incident.io, enriching incidents with diagnostic context, including what changed, where, severity signals, and correlations
- Create automated pipelines for monitoring, reporting, escalation, and early-warning detection. Support incident response teams during live events with real-time analysis, historical context, and accelerated root-cause investigation
- Build proof-of-concepts, run experiments, and communicate outcomes clearly to leadership and wider organizational forums. Share knowledge across teams to help IU become a leader in practical, responsible AI-powered quality assurance
Your Profile
- Strong AI/ML engineering expertise with hands-on experience in intelligent automation, anomaly detection, and agentic workflows
- Solid quality engineering knowledge, including failure modes, operational risk, proactive defect detection, and defining “good quality” in complex systems; experience in EdTech or integrated product environments is a plus
- Strong software engineering discipline, building systems that are tested, observable, maintainable, and production-ready as well as data-driven problem-solving using telemetry, logs, and product signals in BigQuery with advanced SQL proficiency
- Proven builder mindset, taking greenfield systems from concept to reliable production delivery, with strong AI judgment to balance AI leverage and deterministic solutions
- Experience with LangChain, LangSmith, CrewAI, AutoGPT, or similar frameworks; familiarity with incident management platforms (incident.io preferred), observability tools (Datadog), and SRE practices is beneficial
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain complex technical work and demonstrate measurable impact across teams plus leadership experience mentoring engineers through complex technical delivery
