Senior Research & Development Engineer
Role Description
The Senior Research & Development Engineer is a full-time, on-site position based in Elin Pelin, Bulgaria.
This role is responsible for leading the development of new heating and renewable energy products, from concept and design through prototyping, testing, validation, and production readiness. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting technical research, designing and optimizing mechanical components and thermal systems, developing prototypes, performing laboratory and field testing, and evaluating product performance to ensure compliance with European standards and industry regulations.
The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Product Management, to transform technical requirements into reliable, manufacturable products. The role also includes preparing technical documentation, supporting product certification activities, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and contributing to the company's innovation strategy and future product development roadmap.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Research & Development, Product Development, or Mechanical Design within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience designing and developing mechanical, thermal, HVAC, or renewable energy products.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including performance evaluation, root-cause analysis, and product optimization.
- Experience with product prototyping, laboratory testing, validation, and engineering verification.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and product industrialization.
- Familiarity with European standards and regulations, including CE, EN, ErP, and EcoDesign requirements.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Experience with heat pumps, pressure vessels, solar thermal systems, or HVAC products is considered an advantage.
