ABOUT OUR COMPANY
We are an engineering organization. Our mission is to "Ship great software” and build custom, large-scale software platforms on time, on budget, on target and on quality.
In over two decades, we have never failed to deliver what we promised.
85% of our members are software engineers with a background in computer science, physics or mathematics, many also with a strong background in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
freiheit.com technologies was founded in Hamburg in the midst of the first internet boom in the last millennium in 1999.
Since then, we’ve been building custom software platforms and helping our clients to create their future business models based on software.
For over a quarter of a century, we have been working for the "Who's Who" of German and European industry and business.
Retail, automotive, e-commerce, healthcare and more.
Our large-scale software platforms are used by millions of users every day. Each product has a business-critical, strategic relevance for our clients.
Together we make "mission impossible” possible.
We are a team of 300+ members with people from all over the world. In our engineering hubs in Hamburg and Lisbon we come together to create things that no one has built before.
Our teams work data-driven to constantly optimize their own productivity by removing friction from their work. Each member takes on end-to-end responsibility for their work. To be successful, you need to be productive. To be productive, you need to be efficient and effective.
Technology never rests. Neither do we.
Hackers wanted – Software Engineers
ABOUT THE JOB
- Your responsibility: From day one, you’ll own your stories and take end-to-end responsibility for your tasks.
- Your team: You'll work in a small team of no more than five full-stack engineers. Like this, our teams are more efficient and can move fast.
- Your work: You’ll be involved in the entire software engineering lifecycle of your project - from product requirements and design to testing, deployment and operations. You’ll see how people actually use what you build and continuously improve it based on user feedback and real usage data.
- Your projects: We partner with clients across all industries who trust us with their most challenging software problems. We take full ownership from the first idea to the final roll-out. You’re not joining a client team as an extra pair of hands - you’re part of the team responsible for solving the problem. We don’t do body leasing.
- Your impact: You will contribute to some of the largest, business-critical and most demanding software projects in Europe.
- Your perspective: No matter your experience, everyone starts as a newbie and passes through all of our engineering levels. From owning small to medium feature sets to being responsible for the whole codebase. Here you can learn how to build and run large-scale software systems - and grow into a full-stack software engineer.
- Your community: You’ll work with smart, like-minded people who care about what they do and the people around them. With over 300 people across our Hamburg and Lisbon hubs, we work hard, support each other, and make sure to create a work environment where you can become the best version of yourself.
We are a company for engineers by engineers. Most of your time is spent solving problems with like-minded people, writing software and working together with your team in our beautiful offices in the heart of Hamburg & Lisbon.
We expect a lot. It's not easy. But we guarantee you it will be fun.
ABOUT YOU
- A degree: Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a closely related field.
- Problem solving: We hire our members for their problem-solving abilities, not specific programming languages. We value strong engineering fundamentals, analytical thinking, and the ability to turn complex ideas into working code. We believe: if you know how to code, debug, and solve complex problems, you can learn any language. We hire smart engineers, not language specialists.
- A genuine curiosity for programming: Whether through interesting pet projects, hackathons, competitive programming.
- A habit of stepping outside your comfort zone: Whether through competitive tutoring, scholarships, or even competitive sports, anything else where you pushed yourself and grew from it.
Bonus skills or interests:
- Algorithms and data structures, understanding time & space complexity
- Experience in Go, Kotlin, TypeScript or JavaScript
- Experience in front end development, like ReactJS, Angular, Vue or Flutter/Dart
- Functional programming with Common Lisp, Clojure or Haskell
- Experience working with distributed systems in the Cloud
- Experience in Machine Learning and Data Science
