About us: The Hamburg School of Infection & Immunity (HSII) was founded in 2022. We are part of the Academy of Biomedical Health and Sciences (ABHS) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) in Hamburg, Germany. PhD Positions in the Graduate Program at Hamburg School of Infection & Immunity (HSII)
Activities and responsibilities
- Research projects and funding for at least three years
- 180 credits (150 for the dissertation and 30 for accompanying courses, based on the European Credit Transfer System - ECTS)
- Courses in good scientific practice, presentation, and writing skills are offered by the UKE Academy of Biomedical Health Sciences (ABHS). Specific courses cover key skills, interdisciplinary topics, and research methods, along with weekly seminars and journal clubs.
- Retreats, guest lectures, symposia, and social activities
- Language of instruction: English
Qualification profile
- An above-average MSc degree in biological sciences or equivalent (e.g., bioinformatics)
- Proof of English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL or IELTS), unless English is your native language or you have completed at least two years of education (during B.Sc./M.Sc. or equivalent studies) entirely in English
- Strong interest in infection, immunity, and inflammation
- Ability to work in a team and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research
- Proof of full immunization against measles
We offer
Our Program: The HSII offers a three-year PhD curriculum beginning in October each year. The program is supported by a wide range of collaborative research initiatives, including CRC1192, CRC1328, CRC1648, CRC1700, CRC1713, and FOR5068, which focus on infection, immunity, and inflammation. In addition, the immunological training is closely aligned with the research goals of the Hamburg Center for Translational Immunology (HCTI), where scientists and clinicians work in an interdisciplinary environment on autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases.
