PhD Position – Organelle Systems Biology in Alzheimer’s Disease
Activities and responsibilities
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) arise from complex interactions between brain cell types. Increasing evidence suggests that intracellular organelle networks - including lysosomes and mitochondria - coordinate metabolic and immune pathways that maintain brain homeostasis, yet how these systems fail in neurodegeneration remains poorly understood.
This PhD project, as part of the AD-OrganelleScan initiative, aims to uncover organelle-level mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease using organelle-resolved multiomics and systems biology approaches as:
This PhD project, as part of the AD-OrganelleScan initiative, aims to uncover organelle-level mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease using organelle-resolved multiomics and systems biology approaches as:
- Isolation of organelles from brain cells
- Multiomic profiling and analysis to identify disease mechanisms
- Experimental validation
Qualification profile
- Master’s degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Intellectual curiosity and motivation to tackle complex, important biological questions
- Good written and spoken English
We offer
The project is hosted at the Institute of Neuropathology, IMITATE, Freiburg, Germany, a leading center for translational neuroscience research in Germany. The candidate will benefit from:
- Access to state-of-the-art multiomics, imaging, and stem cell platforms
- A highly interdisciplinary environment linking neuroscience, immunology, and systems biology
- Close supervision and structured PhD mentoring
