Investigation of altered immune reactivities in glaucoma patients
Our research team in the Experimental and Translational Ophthalmology Department at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz has extensive experience in basic and clinical research in the field of Ophthalmology. We are interested in understanding the underlying mechanisms leading to retinal and ocular surface diseases, such as Dry Eye Disease, AMD and Glaucoma. Evaluation of longitudinal disease markers can greatly contribute to a better understanding of disease progression. Furthermore, a detailed analysis of subgroups will further improve our understanding of glaucoma.
Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art proteomics and antigen/antibody microarray technologies, as well as comprehensive cell culture and biochemical assay facilities.
We are now looking for motivated students to join our international team and support our research efforts. The project aims to investigate altered immune reactions in serum and tear fluid of glaucoma patients. The aim of these examinations is to diagnose/assess the risk of the disease as early as possible, as well as to be able to distinguish between the different forms of glaucoma.
