The Leibniz Institute of Virology (LIV) is committed to research in human viruses and well as the pathogenesis of viral diseases. The LIV offers the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research in a world-class research environment with excellent technical facilities.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in infectious diseases in the field of coronaviruses.
Coronaviruses (CoVs) have been shown to pose a significant risk for the human population, exemplified by the emergence of highly pathogenic viruses, such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). As obligate intracellular pathogens, viruses are utterly dependent on host cellular processes. Consequently, exploring virus-host interactions is essential to understand mechanisms regulating the viral replicative cycle and any pathological outcomes associated with an infection. Within the recently funded DFG Emmy Noether project “RNA MAP - Investigating non-coding RNA interactions impacting coronavirus infectivity and immune control”, a post-doctoral researcher position is available. This project aims at further studying host factors associated with coronavirus infection, with a strong focus on non-coding RNAs, using a variety of cellular models and sophisticated cellular biology techniques.
The offered postdoctoral researcher position is within the research unit “Emerging Viruses” (Head: Prof. Stephanie Pfänder) (https://www.leibniz-liv.de/forschung/forschungseinheiten/emerging-viruses).
The position is initially limited for three years, after which there is the possibility of another extension for three years.
The LIV is certified with the Total Equality distinction and promotes work-life balance and professional equality between women and men. Women are therefore particularly encouraged to apply. Severely disabled persons will be given preferential consideration if their suitability, qualifications, and professional performance are otherwise equal.
We look forward to receiving your full and detailed application documents, including CV, publication list, motivation letter, a short description of previous experiences and technical skills, and the names and contact information of two or three references. Please submit your application by May 5, 2024, in PDF format by email.
Until the position is filled, applications received at a later date may be considered. For technical questions, please contact the Head of Department (email). If you have any questions about the application process, please contact our HR department (email).
