EUROJET Turbo GmbH was formed in 1986 as the management company responsible for the EJ200 engine system, which in itself was created to meet the demands of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. In the early 1980s, the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain together decided to together create a new generation military aircraft, which would later become known as the Eurofighter Typhoon. These 4 core nations of the programme then established the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) under the NATO charter to manage the project. Essentially, NETMA is EUROJET’s core customer and most of its industrial contracts are made with them for provision of the EJ200 to the various customer nations.Maintaining the 4-nation character of the entire Eurofighter programme, EUROJET was also set up with 4 industry partners, one from each of the core nations (see Company Shareholders below). Partnership is the underlying principle of the entire programme and EUROJET manages its partnership from the company headquarters situated near Munich Airport in Germany.
