PhD student - Cardiology (m/f/d)

The initial appointment will be for the duration of the project, with the option of extension. These are qualification positions within the meaning of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG, according to § 2 para. 1 ).

In a cardiovascular project funded by the DFG (Deutsche Forschumgsgemeinschaft), we aim to investigate the mechanisms underlying increased platelet reactivity and impaired clinical outcome in postmenopausal warnen after myocardial infarction. While cardiovascular risk increases markedly after menopause, the effects of the menopausal hormonal transition on platelet function and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Our preliminary data indicate increased platelet aggregation in postmenopausal warnen and suggest a key role of BRICK1, an important regulator of the actin cytoskeleton and a component of the WAVE regulatory complex.

We are looking for a highly motivated applicant with a Master's degree in natural sciences, biomedicine, molecular medicine or a related field, especially with pharmacological background. Good English skills are required; German is desirable. Experience in experimental cardiovascular research, platelet biology or molecular biology techniques is desirable. Experience with platelet function assays or clinical research is an advantage. The successful applicant will contribute to an interdisciplinary project combining experimental cardiovascular research, molecular biology and translational medicine.

We offer a young and growing working group in the field of se*-specific differences in cardiovascular medicine. Our focus is on gender aspects including hormone effects, menopause and cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes type II with the view to se*-related differences. Our group is included in the Department of Cardiology, Pneumology and Vascular Medicine and completely integrated in the Cardiovascular Research Institute Düsseldorf (CARID). Our group consists of clinicians, PostDocs, medical doctoral students and PhD students from different backgrounds. National and international partners offer close collaboration in the projects and enable intensive exchange in the projects. The Cardiovascular Research Laboratory is modern and equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including flow cytometry, PCR analyses, advanced imaging techniques as weil as murine cardiocirculatory investigation systems. The applicant will be able to develop her/his career and will benefit from the motivated spirit of a growing young working group. She/He will find ideal conditions for close interdisciplinary interaction and scientific growth.

The position is evaluated according to E 13 TV-L (100%, 38,5h weekly)
